Pictou County and Area

Pictou County is in Nova Scotia, located on the coast of the Northumberland Strait. The primary communities affected by Northern Pulp (‘the mill’) are the Town of Pictou and Pictou Landing First Nations (the site of Boat Harbour, where the current effluent treatment facility resides).

Proposed Pipe: Site 1

The first proposed pipe location was to run along underneath Pictou Harbour, releasing effluent into the Northumberland Strait. This location was cancelled after it failed an engineering review.

Proposed Pipe: Site 2

The second and current proposed pipe location would travel underground along the Trans-Canada Highway, exiting into the Northumberland Strait at Caribou Point.
